Purpose of the Co-Production Prize
The Co-Production Prize for Young German and Eastern European Filmmakers offers young German filmmakers in the fields of production, directing, camera, and screenplay the opportunity to carry out a joint film project with colleagues from Eastern Europe.

Eligible are joint production teams consisting of German nationals and members from an Eastern European country (with exception of Turkey and Greece). Individuals may not apply. The production of the film should take place in both Germany and the partner country. The interaction between both cultures is an essential factor of the competition.

The Co-Production Prize enables the winning filmmakers to acquire skills and experience that are vital to their future work in the film business, notably social skills and the ability to adapt to new and difficult parameters in an efficient and goal-oriented manner. The filmmakers make new contacts with other film artists, which broadens their horizons and offers new perspectives on problems and their solutions.

Eligibility
Young filmmakers between the ages 18 and 35 and students or graduated students from film and media academies from Germany and Eastern Europe are eligible for the contest.

Only joint production teams may submit applications. Contestant teams must consist of Eastern European film artists and their German partners.

The team’s producer must submit the project.

The team must feature a

• producer
• director,
• camera operator (not for animated films)
• screenwriter.

The team may have additional positions such as cut, music, etc.

Joint production teams must have at least four members. There should be a balanced mix of Eastern and German team members. At least two members must originate from the partner country.

The working languages in the scope of the competition is English. Contestants must be able to communicate in English.
The application has to be submitted in English!

Submission Requirements

1. a completed application form (please use the online brochure)
2. a factsheet with logline, length, format, language, total amount and amount applied for
3. a detailed project outline (including synopsis, treatment for documentary, script for short feature, storyboard for animation)
4. a concise statement on the candidates’ motivation
5. the team roster and an account of how the team was formed
6. CVs and filmographies
7. a comprehensive budget plan, detailing projected costs and financing
8. a completed, recent feature by the team’s director

All materials for the submission have to be in English language!

The Promotional Grant
The winning teams may use the Robert Bosch Stiftung grant of up to 70,000 euros per film for the following items:

• allowances for meals and accommodation at the film locations during the grant period
• travel expenses
• production costs (cut, copies, rental of technical equipment etc.) Filming material and the purchase of technical film equipment such as cameras, post-production tools etc. are not allowed.
• purchased skills such as DOP, actors, technicians, musicians, etc.. but not fees for producer, director, script (these should be listed as deferrals)

The Robert Bosch Stiftung offers the following additional optional services:

• Production counseling
• Mediation of contacts with film and media artists
• Film promotion

Winning contestants will be issued a grant by the Robert Bosch Stiftung. The producer acts as the grantee and is thus accountable to the Robert Bosch Stiftung regarding the proper use of the funds.

Financial statements and supporting documents
During the production period, the team is required to document its activities by an interims report for the website.

After the grant period has ended, the production teams must produce the following:

• the completed film
• a project report of approximately ten pages
• a financial statement of all expenses incurred by the team (in accordance with Robert Bosch Stiftung requirements)

Patent rights for the films remain with the producer. The Robert Bosch Stiftung has the right to use the supported films for non-profit purposes in the scope of their non-commercial activities.

Competition Process
The application deadline was October 31, 2011.

The competition process has five steps.

Step 1: Selection and viewing will only be conducted by means of formal criteria. After the first step, ineligible films and application packages will be returned to the candidates.

Step 2: A selected jury nominates the 15 best teams and projects (usually five per category). Two representatives from each team will be invited to the Nominee Forum in Berlin in February 2012. The documents of all applicants that were not nominated will be returned.

Step 3: All nominated teams will be invited to the goEast Film Festival in Wiesbaden in April 2012, where they will pitch their projects in front an independent jury, which will select three projects and recommend them for a grant.

The winners will be announced at the Grand Gala of the goEast Festival in April 2012 in Wiesbaden.

Step 4: At the preliminary evaluation meeting in autumn 2012 in Berlin, the teams will be presented with the jury’s standings and discuss the results with the jury.

Step 5: Upon completion, the winning films will be pre-screened in April 2013 as part of the goEast Film Festival.

Up to two members of each winning team will receive the opportunity to participate in the Talent Campus at the Berlin Film Festival.
